Why use Clearlingo?

Behind Clearlingo you will find a friendly and helpful team which includes professional translators and interpreters. Some of us have been in the business for nearly 10 years. We answer queries in a timely manner, and always go the extra mile to make sure we provide a service that fits the bill.

Our linguists are qualified, experienced and vetted. The interpreter or translator assigned to each assignment is carefully selected based on their profile and on the booking requirements.

Linguists payments are fair and on time and our prices are reasonable.

We also offer our services at Legal Aid Rates.

On our home page you will find some of our clients and linguists feedback.

What is the difference between translation and interpreting?

Simple, translation is written and interpreting is oral.

Translation involves reproducing a text in another language

For example:

  • a marriage or birth certificate to obtain a visa,
  • police reports, newspaper articles to provide as evidence as part of an asylum claim, or
  • an Excel spreadsheet with keywords for your Google AdWords campaign.

Interpreting can involve the linguist travelling to a specific venue or interpreting over the phone or by video conference system.

For example:

  • for a site visit,
  • at your firm so you can take instructions from your client, or
  • during a conference.

How do I obtain a quote?

Via our website by completing our short quote request form, or by e-mail.

For translation quotes, we will need to see the document or be provided with the total wordcount and a little information about the source text.

For interpreting quotes, give us as much information as possible. On our website there is an interpreter request form to assist you in giving us the relevant information. If it involves a face to face appointment, we will also need the postcode of the location so we can calculate the travel fee accordingly. If it will take place via video conference, please indicate the platform you will be using (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.)

Do not forget to let us know if the work is to be carried out at Legal Aid rates.

Which languages do you cover?

We have an extensive network of linguists and register new language professionals daily, so it would be impossible to list them all here. Get in touch and we will most likely be able to help!

How much will it cost?

This will depend on the assignment and the best way to find out is to request a quote.

Requesting a quote is completely free and we will usually get back to you within 30 mins.

We offer our services at Legal Aid Rates.

Do you offer your services to companies only or can individuals contact you too?

Both. We work with anyone needing translation, interpreting or transcription work.

What are your payment terms and methods?

Companies: payment to be settled within 30 days of the date of issue of the invoice.

Private individuals: full payment is required before we start the work.

We accept bank transfers and Paypal payments.

Are my documents and my data safe with you?

Clearlingo takes the confidentiality of your documents and data very seriously and we comply with the GDPR legislation. All information that is shared in the course of our work with you is deemed confidential, and as such is treated as a trade secret. All of our employees and suppliers are bound by an obligation of confidentiality.

How long will the translation take?

This depends on the length of the source text, but we always agree a deadline that suits you and is reasonable for our linguists. If you know you need the translation ready by a specific date, mention it when making the request. If you need a document translated urgently, we will find a linguist available to help.

Do you offer transcription services?

Yes we do. We can transcribe audio/video recordings in the language of the recording or provide you with the translation of the spoken words, or both if required.

I just need a document proofread – is that possible?

Of course. Most of our translators also assist with proofreading.

What is the difference between a certified and notarised translation?

A certified translation is a target text produced by a professional translator which includes our stamp, the date and the signature of the authorising member of staff. We also provide cover letters with our contact details confirming that the translation was carried out by a professional translator and is a true and accurate translation of the source text provided to us, as required by the government (see: https://www.gov.uk/certifying-a-document).

On the other hand, a notarised translation is a translation that is accompanied by an affidavit written by the translator confirming the translation is accurate to the best of their knowledge. The translator is required to sign the affidavit in the presence of a notary, acting as a witness, who will also sign and stamp the document.

What is a “sworn” translator?

A “sworn” translator is a professional translator authorised by the relevant entity in their country to provide sworn translations. These linguists have taken an oath in a court of law under penalty of perjury. Such translations are signed and sealed by the translator themselves, rather than an agency. By signing and sealing, the translator assumes responsibility for the document.

How do I know which type of interpreter I need?

This will depend on the type assignment you need the interpreter for and on the settings.

Do you need an interpreter for the audience at a conference, or do you need an interpreter to accompany you for a visit at a client’s home? Do you need the interpreter for a full day or just for a quick chat over the phone?

We can provide interpreters who are experts in consecutive, simultaneous and two-way interpreting, and if necessary, a team of interpreters, along with the equipment.

If you provide us with as much information as you can when making the request, we will ensure we provide you with the perfect solution for your booking.

Do you offer remote telephone or video interpreting?

Yes, we provide both. We have the facilities to provide interpreters by telephone conference system and use Google Meet, Skype or Microsoft Teams when video is required. Our interpreters can also adapt to your requirements and use your preferred platform, such as your own telephone conference system or Zoom.

What hours are your interpreters available?

We provide interpreters 24/7. You can contact Clearlingo at any time (see our contact page.)

What if I need an interpreter “now”, for an emergency?

We can help. We will always try our hardest to provide you with an interpreter in emergency situations. It may not be “now” but “in 10 minutes”, while the interpreter finds a quiet and secure room to interpret from over the phone or, in “in 20 mins”, to give the interpreter time to get to the location.

Can I book an interpreter to attend a meeting outside of the UK?

Yes, our large network of interpreters allows us to send local interpreters to various locations within the United Kingdom as well as outside.

Can I cancel a booking?

Of course. See our Terms and Conditions available on this website for more information on how to cancel an appointment and when you can benefit from free cancellation.
